Celebrity scandals have always been a source of fascination for fans and critics alike. From the earliest days of Hollywood, stars have been involved in scandals that have shocked and entertained the public. Here are some of the most memorable showbiz celebrity scandals of the 2010s.
David Beckham and Rebecca Loos
Loos allegedly had an affair for four months, from September 2003 to January 2004. They were first spotted together at a nightclub in Madrid, sparking rumors of an affair. In April 2004, Rebecca gave an explosive interview to News of the World, a British tabloid, claiming that she had a intimate relationship with David behind his wife’s back. She also revealed details of their intimate encounters and text messages.
David Beckham denied the affair allegations and called them “ludicrous”. He also said that he loved his wife and family very much. Victoria Beckham stood by her husband and dismissed the rumors as “nonsense”.
Winona Ryder shoplifting
in 2001, she was arrested for stealing $5,500 worth of designer clothes and accessories from a Saks Fifth Avenue store in Beverly Hills. She was caught on security cameras and by store employees, who saw her cutting off security tags with scissors.
Ryder was charged with grand theft, burglary, vandalism and possession of a controlled substance. She pleaded not guilty and claimed she was preparing for a film role. However, she was convicted of grand theft and vandalism, and sentenced to three years of probation, 480 hours of community service, $3,700 in fines and $6,355 in restitution. She also had to undergo psychological and drug counselling.
Tiger Woods and Rachel Uchitel
in 2009, Woods’ image as a family man and a role model was shattered when it was revealed that he had been cheating on his wife with multiple women. The scandal broke after he crashed his car outside his Florida home at 2am, following an argument with Nordegren. She had found out about his affair with Rachel Uchitel, a nightclub manager, who was one of at least a dozen women he had been involved with.
Woods initially denied the allegations, but later admitted to his infidelity and apologized for his “transgressions”. He also took a break from golf to undergo therapy for sxx addiction. He faced a huge public backlash and lost many of his sponsors and fans. He also had to pay Nordegren $100 million in their divorce settlement in 2010.
Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva
In June 2010, Grigorieva filed a restraining order against Gibson, accusing him of domestic violence. She claimed that he punched her in the face, broke her teeth and threatened to kill her during an argument in January 2010.
Gibson denied the allegations and filed his own restraining order against Grigorieva, accusing her of extortion and blackmail.
In July 2010, several audio recordings of Gibson’s angry and profane phone calls to Grigorieva were leaked to the media. In the tapes, Gibson can be heard using racist, sexist and derogatory language, as well as threatening to burn down Grigorieva’s house and bury her in the garden. He also insults her appearance, parenting skills and intelligence.
The tapes caused a huge public outcry and backlash against Gibson.
Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson
However, their relationship was also turbulent and tumultuous, as they had frequent arguments, breakups and reconciliations. Lohan’s personal and professional troubles, such as her substance abuse, legal issues and career decline, also added to the strain. Ronson’s family and friends reportedly disapproved of Lohan and tried to intervene.
The couple eventually split for good in April 2009, after a heated fight at a party. Lohan later said that their relationship was “toxic” and that she needed to love herself before being with anyone else. She also said that they were more friends than anything and that they remained on good terms.
