Eddie Howe announces pure delight at Newcastle’s latest January signing as Guimaraes completes transfer move

Eddie Howe has admitted his delight after officially completing the Newcastle United signing of Bruno Guimaraes

The Brazilian star has attracted all sorts of interest over the past few months and it was believed that Arsenal or Manchester United would win the race to sign the star.

However, Toon boss Eddie Howe wanted the board to get a deal done and in the end, a £40 million fee was agreed with Lyon to take Guimaraes to the club on a big five-year deal, and send a real message to the rest of the Premier League

And after completing his move to the club, Howe has admitted that he was the clubs top transfer target

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe to the club’s official website:

“Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I’m delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.

“He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him. We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty.”

He then signed for Lyon and, having won an Olympic gold medal with his country at the 2020 summer games, has earned three full caps for the Seleção. He is currently on international duty with Tite’s side and completed his medical in his homeland ahead of travelling to Newcastle next week, following Brazil’s clash with Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay on Wednesday.
