Hailey Bieber Past Resurfaces
Hailey Bieber past resurfaces amid marriage rumors.
Hailey Baldwin, now Hailey Bieber after marrying pop star Justin Bieber, has been accused of being racist after some of the controversial messages she posted on social media resurfaced. Here is a summary of some of the allegations and controversies surrounding Hailey Bieber’s online behavior.
The Tweets
She was accused of using the N-word and making racist jokes. Baldwin referred to her friends using the racial epithet in direct conversations and comments on Instagram. Additionally, Baldwin asserted on Twitter that she was “not white,” which allowed her to use the n-word.
This incident caused an uproar online and resulted in the model deleting her Twitter account. Despite an apology statement being released, the public response has been divided, with some praising her efforts to apologize and educate herself, and others deeming it inadequate.
Bullying
Hailey Bieber has also been accused of allegedly liking homophobic and sexist posts on Instagram, such as:
- A post from 2016 said only men and women should marry because the Bible says so.
- A post that asked if people would smack Taylor Swift for $835 billion or a sweet tea from McDonald’s.
She has also been accused of virtually bullying Selina Gomez. Gomez is the ex of Justin Bieber, Hailey’s husband.
Relationship
Justin himself has also been accused of making racist remarks in the past. He apologized for his past mistakes in 2014 after a video surfaced of him telling a racist joke when he was 15 years old. He also apologized for another video that showed him singing a racist parody of his song “One Less Lonely Girl”
Bieber issued a public apology shortly after the videos went viral, saying that he was “uneducated” and “didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt”. He also said that he had learned from his mistakes and grown up since then.
The Apology
He wrote in a statement:
“As a kid, I didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was okay to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact, my actions were continuing the ignorance.
Thanks to friends and family I learned from my mistakes and grew up and apologized for those wrongs. Now that these mistakes from the past have become public I need to apologize again to all those I have offended. I’m very sorry. I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake.
I was a kid then and I am a man now who knows my responsibility to the world and to not make that mistake again. Ignorance has no place in our society and I hope the sharing of my faults can prevent others from making the same mistake in the future. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to say but telling the truth is always what’s right.
Five years ago I made a reckless and immature mistake and I’m grateful to those close to me who helped me learn those lessons as a young man. Once again I’m sorry.”
